Does Size Really Matter?

I’m still not quite convinced that it’s REALLY spring yet. Yes, I know the “official” first day of spring was just celebrated the other day, but ehh…idk. First of all, it felt like SUMMER before spring even officially got here, and today it feels like it’s running back to fall! Confused, ehh? In any event, yesterday was not only a “TGIF” for us, but it was a truly beautiful one with lots of sun, a nice breeze, and well…people dressed like it was 90 degrees -_-.  At my university, people get blankets (or not) and just lay out on the campus lawns like they are on the beach if they even see a hint of sun. It’s really funny actually… Any who, I was surprised that I woke up in the spirit to actually dress like it was spring time. I pulled out one of my favorite H&M “spring-time fine” jumpers, and even pulled out the sandals (gasp)….my toes weren’t even painted! I ended up having to paint them on the subway on my way to school….yes, it was that serious.

Throughout the day I was trying to describe my ensemble, but spoiled people always want to see a photo and not words….so I caved…..and took a dreadful “bathroom mirror pic” HA!

I know, I know…I play too much..but hey, I was just giving you guys what you asked for! 😉 When I got home, I took some full body pics to show the full garment, I LOVE the slightly plunging crossover neckline and the flirty sleeves. Of course it has a belt at the waist for a nice cinch, and the pant is flared for just a liiiiiitle drama. I usually don’t rock with floral prints too much, but I think that in this case, size matters …hehe. Maybe it’s me, but there’s a big difference between big flowers and little ones as a print…get your minds out of the gutter!’s a full pic..

Then of course I had to be extra….lol

I really love this jumper, I feel uber sexy and classy at the same time when I wear it. Best part? I got this from H&M for $20!….yes, I still can’t believe it and I’ve had a whole year to think about it…lol.  ’twas a great spring day indeed, but today I’m thinking about it “In memorium of a great spring day”, because today it’s just…..cold :/. I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s beauty of a day and let’s hope they return really soon!

Style Cravings

This morning I opened my eyes and do you know what my first thought was? I thought to myself, “I have a taste for a suit, a tightly turned turban, and a BOLD ass red lip! Yes, that was my FIRST thought of the day…sad right? I’m supposed to give God his props for waking me up and all….but you see how my mind does me? In any event, I can truly say that contemplating on what to wear for the day excites me in the same value each time I do it. I love the fact that, despite popular belief that I have 3 closets full of clothes, I have one measly small closet with all my favorite pieces that I just reinvent each time I wear them. closet really isn't about that life...

I mix and match, pair old with new, and even turn pieces into what I want them to be (i..e my button up once transformed into a turban…my clothes like role playing).

So, when I finally pried myself out of bed I ran over to my closet and pulled out my “presentation suit”, which I call it because I normally only wear it when I have to give a business presentation at school…or for an interview. I wanted to give my suit a new title, you know…swag it out a little bit (did I really just say that?). When I wear that suit, it gives me this sense of power and authority, a confidence I feel one should have anytime they rock anything! In any event, the suit gave me an extra boost and turning the turban only made me feel more like a powerhouse! Once the turban was tied, oxfords were on and red lipstick applied, no one could tell me a thing….LOL. All day at school people kept asking me why I was all dressed up in a suit, but does there really need to be a reason? I responded with, “No reason…I just felt like wearing a suit”, and attached a gentle smile at the end. It was fun….I really love the freedom of being able to express myself through what I wear.

Suit: Ross, $40 (A Collegenista on a budget loves to get a haute find on an even HAUTEr price)

Shirt: Thrift store, $4

Oxfords: Eternity Fashion(Local retailer), $20

Turban: H&M pashmina, $20

Earrings: Sorrelli, gift

Bracelets (set): H&M, $7

Watch: Armitron, $40

Turquoise ring:NYC  jewelry supply store, $1

All the business school people always look at me like I’m a rebel or something, they’ll get used to me one day…

*p.s.. I tweeted my OOTD pic to my STYLECON, June Ambrose, and she responded “U R a Renaissance lady” *dies a little* ..ok, bye.

5 Tips to Turn Spring Pieces Into Fall Favorites!

Good day folks!

I’m forever remixing my spring pieces into fall looks because honestly, a large percentage of my clothes are spring ready. Yes, I have a gazillion blazers, but that’s pretty much it when it comes to my fall closet. Since this is true, I often remix my spring favorites to make them fitting for the fall weather. It’s actually pretty fun to make one piece transform into so many different looks, sometimes I actually surprise myself. In any event, accessories are the major game changers when it comes to transforming a spring look for fall. One of my favorite spring pieces is this one-shoulder olive-green jumpsuit I scored at H&M, like…LOVE it! Well, one day on a “I don’t have anything to wear” day, I decided to remix it and it worked out just how I planned it! Take a look at how I wore the jumpsuit for spring…

Spring look

The look: Jumpsuit: H&M, turban:beauty supply store(Philly), Wedges: Eternity(Philly), earrings: Charlotte Russe, bangles: vendor
In the spring, I decided to wear the jumpsuit with a turban to take it more in the retro arena, strappy platform wedges, feathered earrings, and minimal accessories. Check how I transformed it for fall with the attacking of my accessories box…

Fall look

Fall look

The look: jumpsuit: H&M, oxfords:Eternity, turban: H&M, blazer: New York & Company, belt: Iman Global Chic, earrings: Charlotte Russe, ring: beauty supply (NYC)

To turn my spring look into a fall favorite, I simply turned my favorite pashmina into a turban, added a crimson blazer for contrast, added a belt to cinch my waist and add flair, substituted black oxfords for the wedges, added a tribal earrings, a statement ring in a jewel tone, and of course a red lip to seal the deal! Here are some simple ways you can turn a soring look into a fall favorite:

1. Add a jacket: It can be a blazer, leather, or even a duster coat! The addition says you’re about to brave temps a little above the springtime norm and it adds a sophistication to your look.

2. Pile on the accessories: They make or break any look! For fall, find great statement pieces that will really compliment your look and wear them well! If you are going for a great statement piece, just choose one so it can shine and speak for itself!

3. Shoes: You can go many directions with this one, but to me..a darker shoe always reads “fall”, but the possibilities are endless!

4. makeup: Beauty is just as much a part of the look as the garments! Makeup trends change just like the seasons; for fall don’t be afraid to rock a bold lip in a deep red or plum, it adds mystery and dimension to a beautiful face!

5. Confidence: This should actually be number 1! Have confidence with each and every look you rock and you will always look your absolute best!

If you’re like me and love to remix clothes, you will have fun with this! Happy remixing!

Sincerely, with style~
